My Resolutions for the Decade and Beyond

Although this is a predicable first post of 2020, this isn’t a list of standard resolutions like the promise of weightless and detoxes. Quite frankly I can’t stand resolutions; they are always broken and once they are it just leaves behind the feeling of failing the year. No. I cannot be bothered to join this cycle. Instead, I am taking the New Year as an opportunity to better myself with achievable goals (the keyword being achievable) that will not just last me the decade, but the rest of my life.

  1. Self-Love

This is a concept I’ve touched upon before (Post: Why self-love isn’t selfish) but is something I want to continue to work on. As the saying goes, how can you love others if you can’t love yourself?

  1. Stress less

I am a notorious stress head; I definitely sweat the small stuff! I stress about the smallest things that will literally not affect me in the slightest and because of this stress, I tend to have a lot of built-up tension. I’m sad to say that sometimes this means that I can’t enjoy myself as much as I should. I’m literally a ball of stress. However, this isn’t something I can just stop. I need to learn how to manage my stress, which brings me on to my next point.

Ok, you got me! A stereotypical resolution! Not only do I want to read more fiction (I’m a sucker for RomComs), but I want to learn more about meditation, mindfulness and other techniques to help manage my anxiety and I feel like self-help books are the best way forward. It’s something I have a genuine interest in and my aim is to learn more to not only better myself but also write about more right here on the blog. Watch this space!

  1. Listen to me

Over the last few years, like many of us, I have kick-started the New Year with a diet. Well not in 2020! Now that doesn’t mean I am going to be on the junk food all year. I will make smart choices when it comes to food, just like I did in 2019, but I won’t beat myself up for wanting a bit of chocolate. I am also going to continue to exercise purely for the benefits of my head. Aside from physical health, I am also going to listen to my head. If I want to spend my weekend in bed, I’m going to do it! I always push myself to do things which has been a positive for my confidence over the years, but I am not going to overdo it. I am going to pay more attention to myself and what I want, and most importantly not feel guilty for it.

  1. Be happy

A good old cheesy one to end! I have a number of goals that I want to achieve in my life, and as of lately I’ve found myself in a rush to get there. But what happens once I achieve those goals? knowing me I’ll be looking at the next steps! So why not enjoy the now? I will continue to aim for the stars whilst learning to find joy in the day-to-day. In fact, I am planning on doing one thing every day to make myself smile. Even if its something simple like listening to a certain song. A smile can change the world!

So there we have it, my resolutions to be kinder to myself. These aren’t challenges that I will go onto break, these are pretenses into creating a happier me. I think we could all benefit from a little more happiness. What are your resolutions? Let me know in the comments.
